Continuous monitoring: questions and answers.
What continuous controls monitoring is, what it can and cannot do, and how it fits a management system.
Topics
What is continuous controls monitoring?
Continuous controls monitoring (CCM) means checking on an ongoing basis whether controls work, instead of only once a year. For technical controls this is often done with automated checks; for organisational controls it means fixed review moments with an owner.
Which controls can be monitored automatically?
Mainly technical controls, such as multi-factor authentication settings, encryption, backup status, vulnerability scans and logging. Organisational controls, such as policies, risk assessments, supplier reviews and training, still need people to review and decide.
Does continuous monitoring replace internal audits?
No. ISO 27001 and ISO 42001 require internal audits and management review at planned intervals. Monitoring results are input for those, not a replacement.
How does Basenorm support continuous monitoring?
Basenorm keeps every control linked to its owner, its evidence and the standards it counts for, so you can see where attention is needed between audits. Ask our team which integrations are available for your systems.
